Big Read Begins in February

National Endowment for the Arts, Big Read*** Just Added *** Wednesday, February 17th at 5:30pm, an illustrated history and discussion of Samuel Clemens' Mississippi Steamboat Career with river historian Dan Back.

Our library has joined public libraries throughout Alabama in a state-wide effort to read and discuss Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer this February.
Our celebration begins with a special Preschool Storytime Kickoff, Tuesday, February 2 at 10am. We continue with a special combined meeting of our library's two book groups Wednesday, February 3 at 2:30, a showing of the 1973 film Tom Sawyer at 3pm on Wednesday, February 10 and an enlightening discussion of Mark Twain & Tom Sawyer with editor and scholar Mary Riser at 6pm on Thursday, February 25.
Please join us at one or all of these free events.
The Big Read: Alabama Reads, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
 
Winter Programming
January and February are two of our busiest months here at the library. To find our more about the library's programs and activities, please click the "Events " tab or click here to download a printable version of our winter calendar.

All library programs are open to locals and visitors alike, but our Monday computer classes require advance registration (available from our Events page) and the Peter Fletcher concert is a ticketed event.
 
5 Star Library!
text box, Library Journal Index 2009 Star Library The Orange Beach Public Library has been notified that we have received national recognition as a 5-Star Library, the highest rating from The Library Journal Index of Public Library Services.  The ranking is based on four service categories:  circulation (number of items checked out), visits to the library, program attendance and public Internet computer use. This second round of the LJ Index is based on our 2007 data, predating the recession’s onset.
